Save A Life
Often times we get so wrapped up in our busy schedules that we miss very important warning signs that could save a life. Just because someone smiles all the time and looks happy, doesn’t mean that they truly are. We need to hold each other accountable and become more aware of the people in our surroundings.
I have had those days when I was struggling and while walking, I would smile at the person going by. But they just kept on walking, no smile, not even a head nod. I must say that did not help the way I was already feeling. In fact it made it worse.
Please know that everyone that is battling a mental illness, doesn’t always look like what they are going through. Many people smile to mask the pain and frustration that they may be feeling. It is up to us to embrace everyone with love, even though that can be difficult at times. Take more time to greet someone in passing or at least offer a friendly smile.
You have no idea how comforting that can be for someone struggling with depression. Who knows, that friendly smile or hello might be just enough hope needed for that individual to feel visible, loved, and valued. That gesture of kindness could be the very thing to save a life.
