7 Ways to Go from a Fearful Person to Complete Confidence in the Lord
Controlled by Fear
You have allowed fear to control you for too long now. It’s time for you to break free and live the life that God intended just for you. How many times have you been rerouted by your GPS because of fear? There are 7 ways to go from fear to complete confidence in the Lord.
The route that God planned just for you is there and has been there all along. So, when you take your rightful place in the passenger seat and allow Him to take the wheel, then the transformation will begin. But, first there is work that needs to be done. There is also a book entitled, “The Fear Factory”, that is definitely worth the read.
Do The Work
1. You must learn to deal with guilt through confession and repentance. (see Proverbs 28:1)
2. You must develop an obedient thought life. First, in order to do so, you must be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (see Romans 12:2) And, Philippians 4:8 reminds us to meditate on whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtuous, praiseworthy.
3. You must focus on developing a proper fear of God, remembering to fear God and not man. You must channel fear into serving the Lord. (see Psalm 112:1, 7, 8)
4. You must allow the Holy Spirit to develop in you the fruit of self-control, which is a fruit of the spirit given by God. (see 2 Timothy 1:7, Galatians 5:22-23)
5. You must also learn to live out and express love to God and others before self. Matthew 22:36-40 reminds us that is we love God first whole-heartedly, then love for others will fall into the proper place. You must not only love others by what you say, but also by everything that you do. (see 1 John 3:18)
6. You must practice ways to walk by faith and not by feeling. In Hebrews 11, each person obeyed God by faith. (see Hebrews 11) Affirmation: Faith is believing the Word of God and acting upon it, no matter how I feel, knowing that God promises a good result.
7. You must ask for wisdom and God’s help to put off fear and put on love instead. (see Ephesians 4:22-24)
Don’t Live Like the Gentiles
Don’t live like the Gentiles, hopeless and confused. (see Ephesians 4:17) Let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitude. (see Ephesians 4:23) My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking. And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it!
He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures, but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next. When you are half-hearted and wavering, it leaves you unstable. Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when you’re in that condition?
Amen! After my husband passed away suddenly, I was for the first time flooded with very real fears. It was paralyzing me. I had to work through it with the truth of scripture ….#6 especially is huge for me. I have to trust the truth of God’s word rather than my feelings. Great steps, Stacia.
Lisa I am sorry for your loss. Fear has been a thorn in my side for years. When it comes to walking by faith and not feeling that is still very hard for me to do…But God!
